Shark Attacks Swimmer in Waist Deep Water Off Hilton Head Beach

HILTON HEAD, SC – On Friday, off Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a man was reportedly bitten by a shark while swimming in the waters.

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 3:20 p.m. when the swimmer was in waist-deep water at the beach in Sea Pines, according to the Town of Hilton Head Island Government.

Upon receiving the report, personnel from Shore Beach Service promptly responded to the scene and assisted in removing the man from the ocean.


Paramedics arrived and transported the man to Hilton Head Hospital for treatment of the apparent shark bite.

Hilton Head Director of Public Safety, Bob Bromage, disclosed that the man involved in the incident was 60 years old, but his identity was not publicly revealed, as reported by the Island Packet newspaper.

As of now, no further details have been released regarding the injured man’s current condition or the specific type of shark that is believed to have been responsible for the attack.
