Head of New Jersey Drug Operation Based out of NYC is Going to Prison

NEWARK, NJ – A New York resident, Juan Carlos Merced Moreno, also known as “Samuel”, has been sentenced to 132 months in prison for his role in a drug distribution ring.

The 45-year-old Manhattan resident was sentenced on Tuesday, in the Newark federal court for conspiring to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin in New Jersey.

Moreno pleaded guilty on December 20, 2022, to a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess substantial quantities of narcotics. He admitted to partaking in the conspiracy from November 2020 to January 2021, operating out of Manhattan locations and distributing the drugs in New Jersey.


In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Cecchi also sentenced Moreno to four years of supervised release.

 The Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, New York City Airport Border Enforcement Security Task Force, and other law enforcement units were credited for their role in the investigation and sentencing.
