ORANGE COUNTY, NY – On Wednesday, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced the sentencing of Lamont Williams, a 29-year-old resident of Newburgh.

Williams was sentenced to a total of 25 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, in relation to his guilty plea to Manslaughter in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree.

Williams admitted to possessing a loaded pistol on the evening of September 29, 2022, which he used to fire at two people, resulting in one fatality and injuries to a five-year-old boy.

Following the incident, Williams fled from Newburgh and was later apprehended in North Carolina by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, the United States Marshal Service, and North Carolina law enforcement.

The arrest of Williams was the result of a collaborative effort involving multiple federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
