Rainy Day on Ocean City Vacation Ends with $50k Win

Ocean City, MD – A rainy day at the shore turned into a stroke of luck for an Ohio couple, who ended their vacation with a $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket. Seeking entertainment on a gloomy day, the couple decided to purchase lottery tickets at 7-Eleven #26106 in Ocean City.

As avid lottery fans, the couple bought Powerball tickets and a few Maryland games in the hope of getting a share of the $1.08 billion jackpot. To their surprise, the cashier at 7-Eleven called them back after their purchase to inform them that they had won a free Pick 5 ticket as part of a promotion celebrating Lottery Week.

The following morning, during their return journey to their Cleveland suburb home, the couple stopped for gas. They remembered the Maryland Lottery tickets and decided to check if they had won any prizes. When the husband checked the tickets, his reaction caught the attention of his wife. The $50,000 top-prize Pick 5 win in the July 19 midday drawing had left them both in awe and elation.

“It sure did lift the usually depressing end-of-vacation mood for us. It was all we talked about,” shared the 58-year-old school system employee, reflecting on the joyous drive back home.

The couple has decided to use a major portion of their winnings for a long-desired home improvement project. Additionally, the husband intends to set aside some of the money for their next summer’s Ocean City vacation, already planning a return visit to 7-Eleven #26106 at 106 North Division Street.

The Worcester County business, 7-Eleven #26106, is also celebrating the win as the lucky Lottery retailer. The retailer earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket during the Lottery Week promotion, which took place from July 16 to 22. During this promotion, players had the opportunity to receive a free game by purchasing any draw or FAST PLAY ticket throughout the week.
