CUMBERLAND, MD- For a Cumberland man, playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs has become a cherished family tradition, with both him and his relatives enjoying the thrill of winning over the years. Recently, he hit the jackpot and claimed the $100,000 top prize on a $10 scratch-off, marking his biggest win to date.

Reflecting on the family’s fondness for playing, Alonzo Butler, the fortunate winner, mentioned, “My family has some players – me, my mom, and my grandma,” as he proudly claimed his prize on the Money Bag Multiplier game.

“It’s just something I enjoy. I get home from work and scratch off a few,” Alonzo said with a smile, adding that he picked up the habit from his grandmother.

He fondly recalled his grandmother’s own $50,000 win at one point, while Alonzo himself has had two $10,000 level wins in recent months. Interestingly, he hadn’t initially planned on purchasing the Money Bag Multiplier instant ticket but changed his mind while visiting a Cumberland Sheetz store.

Alonzo’s excitement grew as he scratched off parts of the instant ticket and saw the numbers match. Matching the number 41 in both the winning numbers and your numbers part of the scratch-off brought him a thrilling $50,000 win, and matching 8 at both locations initially seemed to yield a $100 prize. However, he soon realized that it was actually $100 multiplied by 50. The excitement continued with a match on the numbers 19, resulting in a prize of $1,000 multiplied by 20, and on 58, leading to a win of $500 multiplied by 50.

Looking forward to securing a bright future for his children, ages 3 and 6, the delighted dad plans to invest his winnings for their benefit. “I’m just going to invest it for my kids,” he happily stated.

Sharing in Alonzo’s good luck, the Sheetz #051 store located at 210 Greene Street in Cumberland will also be celebrating. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery, equal to 1% of the prize, as a reward for selling the winning scratch-off with the $100,000 top prize.
