MSNBC Guest Says With Straight Face The Obama Admin Was Scandal-Free

New Yorker reporter Susan Glasser claimed Thursday that the Obama administration was scandal-free during a Thursday morning MSNBC appearance.

Glasser’s comments came the day former President Donald Trump was set to appear before a federal magistrate in Washington D.C. to be arraigned after Special Counsel Jack Smith secured a four-count indictment of Trump relating to his efforts to contest the results of the 2020 election. The Internal Revenue Service faced criticism centered around the reported targeting of conservative groups during the Obama administration and leaking taxpayer data to ProPublica, a left-wing media outlet, in 2013.

“Look at the incredible contrast between the actions of the Donald Trump and his predecessor Barack Obama, and what’s remarkable is that the one of the reasons I think Obama’s popularity has held among Democrats is because, you know, there was no scandal in his administration,” Glasser told “Morning Joe” co-host Mike Barnacle. “There was only a sense that it was, you know, succeeded by this extraordinary chaotic spectacle. And if anything that has reinforced for many people, you know, why Obama was their choice for leader.”

Smith previously secured a 37-count indictment against Trump in June based on an investigation into allegations surrounding classified documents.  Lois Lerner, a central figure in the allegations of targeting conservative groups, escaped criminal charges.

During the Obama administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) carried out Operation Fast and Furious, during which hundreds of semiautomatic rifles were allowed to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. At least three firearms involved in that operation were linked to the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in 2010.

Then-Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress in June 2012 over refusing to provide documents to the House Oversight Committee when Congress investigated the scandal around Operation Fast and Furious.
