Man Shot in Back, Killed in Lawrence Township; Shooter On the Loose

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ – Police are investigating after a man was shot in the back and killed early this morning in Lawrence Township. His killer remains at large.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri and Lawrence Township Police Chief Christopher Longo have reported a tragic incident that occurred early on Friday morning, resulting in the fatality of a 36-year-old resident from Lawrence.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., officers from the Lawrence Police Department responded to a residence on Mendrey Court following a 911 call reporting a shooting.


Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim in the living room with a gunshot wound to his back. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Anthony Irizarry, was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Lawrence Township Police Department, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Currently, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident. Authorities are urging individuals who possess any information relevant to the case to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
