Newark Police Seeking Hit and Run Driver

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Public Safety Department, headed by Director Fritz G. Fragé, is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying a female suspect and her vehicle, both of which are involved in a hit and run incident that took place on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

The events unfolded around 7:50 p.m. when police were alerted to a pedestrian accident at Sanford Avenue and South Orange Avenue intersection. The adult female pedestrian was crossing the street when she was hit by the vehicle.

Following the incident, the driver briefly left her vehicle to move the victim to the sidewalk. However, she returned to her car and left the scene, heading south on Sanford Avenue.


The injured pedestrian was quickly transported to the University Hospital. As of now, she is recovering and her condition is deemed stable.

The suspect is described as a Black female with extended braided hair. She was last seen wearing a black jumpsuit paired with pink slippers.

Her vehicle, a pivotal piece in this investigation, is a yellow 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. It carries a New Jersey license plate with the registration number Y17RKZ.
