ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department announced the arrest of Scott Stawiarski, a 31-year-old corrections officer from North Fayette, following an investigation conducted by the Allegheny County Police Internal Affairs/Jail Investigations Unit. Stawiarski, who has been a corrections officer since 2017, is charged with official oppression, false reports to law enforcement authorities, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

The arrest stems from an incident on June 17, 2023, when jail staff discovered an adult male inmate in possession of contraband. The inmate was charged criminally for possession and received jail sanctions.

The subsequent internal investigation revealed that Stawiarski submitted fictitious reports claiming to have found the contraband in the inmate’s cell.

Stawiarski admitted to the police that another inmate had provided him with the contraband during a search of the victim inmate’s cell, and the item was later turned over to County Police as evidence.

Following the revelation, the contraband charge against the victim inmate has been withdrawn from further criminal proceedings.

Stawiarski has been suspended without pay indefinitely, pending the outcome of the investigation.
