Hey New Jersey, You Can Now Send Texts to Governor Phil Murphy

TRENTON, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy announced the launch of a new platform, Community™, marking the first instance of a Governor in the U.S. utilizing this method to directly engage with constituents and provide first-hand updates on pressing issues.

Community is an SMS marketing platform that enables businesses, brands, and public figures to connect with audiences using a unique 10-digit phone number. Unlike social media channels, Community does not use advertising or algorithms, but instead delivers text messages directly to subscribers.

Governor Murphy stated that the use of the platform aligns with the communication habits of consumers today.

“Virtually every consumer uses text messaging. Why not use it to speak directly to residents, keep them updated on some of the great work we’re doing, and at the same time provide them with another opportunity to tell us what’s on their minds?” he said.

The Governor shared his unique Community number, (732) 605-5455, on social media, inviting residents to text their questions or comments and promising to send updates and respond to as many individuals as possible.

Governor Murphy’s decision to use Community comes after President Biden’s debut on the platform and is part of an effort to foster personal experiences and engagement rooted in authenticity, belonging, and trust. The initiative aims to counteract harmful and negative speech in today’s communication landscape.
