New Jersey State Police Seek Witnesses in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on Turnpike

EAST BRUNSWICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – The New Jersey State Police and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are calling on the public to assist in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick Township, Middlesex County, on August 23.

According to preliminary findings, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a 25-foot-long White ISUZU box truck was traveling northbound in the truck lanes near milepost 78.8. An unknown tractor-trailer collided with the ISUZU and subsequently fled the scene.

The ISUZU box truck suffered damage to the driver’s side door and mirror. Tragically, the driver, 78-year-old Giuseppe Zuccarello of Whitestone, NY, succumbed to fatal injuries as a result of the collision.


Authorities are actively investigating the incident and are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or any events leading up to or following it. Witnesses, or anyone with information that may be pertinent to the investigation, are encouraged to contact the Troop “D” Criminal Investigations Office at 732-441-4500 ext. 4424.

The tragic incident underscores the importance of responsible driving and cooperation with law enforcement. The authorities are determined to identify the perpetrator and ensure that justice is served for the victim and his family.
