SAYVILLE – The call for assistance was anything but routine in Sayville on Monday. Officer Arnold Reyes of the Suffolk County Police Department was summoned to a residence on High Street, where a newborn awaited his help.

Upon arrival, Reyes discovered that the baby had already been born. As a member of the SCPD’s Medical Crisis Action Team (MedCAT), he quickly took charge of the situation, placing clamps on the umbilical cord and aiding the father in cutting it.

The Community Ambulance Company was dispatched on the scene and transported the joyful mother and her baby to a local hospital.

This marked the third occasion Officer Reyes has assisted in a baby delivery in the last six months. His experience and swift action undoubtedly contributed to the successful birth.
