Helicopter Crash Shuts Down Stretch of North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach, FL — A helicopter crash involving a Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Fire Rescue chopper has led to the closure of North Dixie Highway between Northeast Fifth Street and Northeast 10th Street. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area near North Dixie Highway and Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.

The helicopter was spotted with a plume of smoke coming from its engine before spiraling out of control and crashing to the ground.


The incident occurred at approximately 8:46 a.m. after emergency personnel responded to an aircraft alert located southwest of the Pompano Beach Airpark. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue has transported two individuals to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The area remains an active scene as Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel continue to investigate the crash. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
