Atlantic City, NJ — Two juvenile males were arrested and two handguns were recovered by the Atlantic City Police Department, following a tip that led to a quick apprehension.

Detective Christopher Dodson received information on August 25 that the two juveniles were each carrying a handgun on the Boardwalk. Officers and members of the Surveillance Center located the two near Arkansas Avenue shortly after 10 p.m.

As police approached, both juveniles attempted to flee. Sergeant Darrin Lorady pursued one of them, a 15-year-old from Egg Harbor City, NJ.

The juvenile drew a handgun from his waistband but complied with commands to drop the weapon. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The second juvenile, a 16-year-old from Atlantic City, was also swiftly apprehended. He discarded a handgun as officers closed in.

Charges for the 16-year-old include unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. The 15-year-old faces similar charges, along with possession of hollow-point ammunition. Both were remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Chief James Sarkos praised the officers and surveillance personnel for their quick and effective actions. “Our officer’s proactive approach coupled with the investments we have made in technology helped to resolve this situation quickly,” he said.

The public is reminded that these charges are allegations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
