Mercer County Couple Indicted for Immigration Fraud

NEWARK, NJ – Zuwairul Ameer, 61, and Claudette Ameer, 63, residents of Lawrence Township, New Jersey, were indicted on Monday, on charges of conspiring to commit immigration fraud and committing immigration fraud.

According to court documents, the couple had been in the business of preparing fraudulent asylum applications since at least 2007.

Applications submitted contained exaggerated stories or false preparer information.


Both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The charges come as a result of an investigation led by the FBI – New York Field Office and the USCIS Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate.

Those with information related to the case are asked to contact the agencies involved. The investigation continues.
