NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé announced the arrest of Jmarkus A. Baker, 50, for a series of burglaries committed at various establishments including two charter schools, a church, a pain management institute, and a city traffic facility. The burglaries took place between July and August.
Baker was first identified in burglaries at Newton Street School on July 10 and July 20, where he stole power tools, folding chairs, and several tents. Surveillance footage showed him entering the building at 1:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
On July 22, Baker broke into Newark Collegiate Academy, taking football helmets, a power drill, eight Chromebook computers, snacks, and cleaning products. He entered the building around 2:41 a.m.
Baker was also charged with theft for stealing various items from Marion P. Thomas Charter School on July 16. On July 15, he was caught on camera taking tools from a work truck at the Newark Division of Traffic & Signals, as well as generators, a water pump, electrical tools, a vacuum, and two blowers.
On August 5, Baker was again captured on surveillance video at the North American Pain and Spine Institute. He entered the building through a rear door around 11:02 p.m. and took three televisions and cleaning supplies.
Most recently, on August 26, approximately 30 chairs and five tents were reported missing from a shed at Ebenezer Baptist Church, with Baker identified as the suspect.
