Senate Leader Calls on Murphy to Reject Democrat Plan to Relocate Migrants to New Jersey

TRENTON, NJ – Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco has called on Governor Phil Murphy and Democratic leaders to reject a proposal from the Biden administration to transfer 60,000 asylum seekers currently in New York City to the Atlantic City International Airport.

Sen. Bucco stated, “We must stop the Biden administration from exacerbating the humanitarian crisis that they created by passing the buck on to New Jersey from New York City.” He added that the proposed relocation demonstrates the federal government’s failure to take immigration issues seriously.

The call for action comes in the wake of reports indicating that the Biden administration is considering multiple sites, including Atlantic City, for relocating a large number of asylum seekers currently housed in New York City.

Bucco asserted that New Jersey should not be responsible for what he termed “New York City’s failure to house migrants as a sanctuary city.” He called on all elected officials in New Jersey to oppose the federal proposal, citing its implications for state and city policies regarding asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants.
