Suspect In Murder of 76-Year-Old Yonkers Man Arrested

YONKERS, NY – On Tuesday, Yonkers Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious male at 347 Scarsdale Road at around 4:30 PM. Upon arrival, the officers found a 76-year-old male, later identified as Jose Raul Velasco, deceased with multiple severe lacerations.

The initial investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s son, August Velasco, 47, also a resident of Yonkers. Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit were called to the scene to further investigate.

 The criminal investigation revealed that Velasco had attacked his father with a cleaver, leading to his death. The weapon was recovered at the scene by the detectives.


Velasco was charged with second-degree murder and is currently in custody. He will be arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court on Thursday.
