New York, NY — A violent episode inside a Bronx apartment led to an 88-year-old woman falling from a first-floor window on Friday morning, police said. The incident unfolded as a 38-year-old man in the apartment slashed a 61-year-old woman’s neck and then stabbed himself.

Both women were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with stable conditions; the older woman had suffered a cut to her face due to the fall, which was approximately 7 feet.

The event took place in the Morris Heights area, in an apartment located at Clay Avenue near East 175th Street, around 7 a.m. After injuring the 61-year-old, the man locked himself in the apartment and self-inflicted a stab wound to his chest. He was transported to the same hospital in critical condition.

The exact relationship between the three individuals, all residents of the same apartment, remains under investigation, police said.
