SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – Brent Henry, a 59-year-old resident of Riverhead, has been indicted for the murder of 23-year-old Ines Reyes of East Patchogue.

The indictment was announced by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. On Wednesday, August 18, Henry allegedly engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with Reyes inside a Bellport home.

The altercation escalated when both parties left the Bellport residence. Reyes and his girlfriend, who is also Henry’s niece, relocated to a home on Amsterdam Avenue in East Patchogue. Henry followed them and initiated another physical confrontation. After a brief exchange, Henry retrieved a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun from his vehicle and shot Reyes multiple times.

Reyes was immediately taken to Long Island Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Henry was arrested the following day, August 19. On Thursday, he was arraigned by Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz on charges of Second Degree Murder and Second Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Henry has been remanded pending the outcome of the case. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 18. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison. Henry is being represented by attorney Christopher Cassar.
