Tropical Storm Lee became Hurricane Lee earlier today as it continues picking up strength as it moves northwesterly toward the northern side of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The path of the hurricane at this time appears to be making its way toward the U.S. East Coast.

Its potential impact on the Jersey Shore and Mid-Atlantic is uncertain at this time.

Lee is expected to pass Bermuda this weekend as it continues its north, northwesterly course.

A Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph is currently 870 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, weather experts are signaling potential danger for the southwestern Atlantic by early next week.

According to this morning’s National Weather Service report, the storm is situated 965 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands.

Forecasters anticipate that the storm will reach its peak intensity over the weekend. Despite its distance from land, experts warn that Lee is still expected to pose a significant threat to regions over the southwestern Atlantic early next week
