HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson announced the sentencing of Tyrell Harris-McLaughlin, 29, a former Senior Corrections Officer at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility. On June 27, Harris-McLaughlin pleaded guilty to third-degree tampering with a witness and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

Today, the Honorable Angela F. Borkowski sentenced him to a five-year state prison term with a two-year period of parole ineligibility, along with a concurrent eighteen-month term. Harris-McLaughlin was initially charged in October 2021 for sexually assaulting a female inmate while having supervisory and disciplinary authority over her.

The charges originated from a joint investigation involving the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, and the Department of Corrections’ Special Investigations Division.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson emphasized her office’s commitment to upholding justice and public service standards. She stated that those who violate their oath will face thorough and impartial investigations. Robeson added that her office would continue collaborating with law enforcement partners to maintain a safe environment in Hunterdon County. Today’s sentencing aligns with these objectives.
