Phil Murphy Makes Sudden Right Turn on Illegal Immigration, Here’s Why

Robert Walker

TRENTON, NJ (OPINION) – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wants America to take in the world’s oppressed, tired, and unwanted. In fact, he campaigned on the subject, declaring his state a sanctuary state open to anyone who wants to come, without fear of reprisal or rejection.

That is unless they come during an important state mid-term election year when the grip of Democrats is hanging on the edge.

Murphy, who criticized the border and immigration policy of former President Donald J. Trump is starting to sound more like “The Donald” after President Joe Biden announced he will be sending thousands of NYC migrants to a federally owned property at the Atlantic City Airport.

Unfortunately for those migrants, Murphy and the Democrats have an election to win in November, and the timing, smack in the middle of campaign season is not one Murphy wants to deal with at this time.

Last week, he said New Jersey cannot afford an influx of illegal immigrants.

Oddly enough, prior to the NYC migrant news, he said the exact opposite when he wanted to allocate $40 million in federal funds to illegal immigrants living in New Jersey.

“I don’t see any scenario where we’re going to be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or frankly elsewhere in the state,” Murphy said last week. “You need scale, enormous amount of federal support, resources that go beyond anything that we can afford. Putting everything else aside, I just don’t see it. I would suspect that that will continue to be the case.”

At least, until after the November election. You see Murphy does want the migrants. He always has, and always will. The timing is not good for those poor souls let across the border by the Biden administration who have been sleeping in the streets of New York City alongside the homeless.

It’s a problem Murphy and the Democrats of New Jersey have made themselves, ignoring the influx of millions of illegal migrants annually. They sat quietly. They did nothing to stop it. Now, that the migrant crisis is in Phil Murphy’s backyard during a critical election year, he will continue to pretend he doesn’t want it.

He will continue to pretend that a state so flush with cash can’t afford it, but once Democrats win and retain control of both the Senate and legislature in New Jersey, Murphy will be accepting illegal migrants by the busloads with open arms.

Until then, Murphy and Democrats have to pretend they never asked for this. They have to pretend they didn’t cause this new problem. They have to pretend they care about the people of New Jersey long enough to con Democrats into re-electing them once again.

The Immigration crisis was never supposed to leave Texas and Florida. It was designed to be a problem only for the two Republican strongholds. Now, that the Biden administration has failed to contain the crisis to red states, it has become a major problem for people like Phil Murphy and champagne Democrats across the country who say they are for illegal immigration, as long as illegal immigration doesn’t become their problem.
