UTICA, NY – A suspect responsible for a recent shooting at Proctor High School has turned himself into authorities.

Early today, the Utica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, along with the NY/NJ Regional Marshals Taskforce and the Utica Police Department Crime Prevention Unit, identified the individual behind the shooting assault.

The suspect later turned himself into the Utica Police Department.

Public assistance played a crucial role in the quick identification of the suspect through the submission of video evidence from the incident. The security officer injured during the shooting is expected to make a full recovery, according to authorities.

A livestream held at 11:30 a.m. on the Utica City School District public pages outlined security measures to be implemented in the coming days. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to speak with all parties present at the time of the incident.

The 16-year-old male suspect is not a current student at Proctor High School but is enrolled in an alternative educational program.

His name is not being released due to his age, but efforts are underway to prosecute him as an adult in collaboration with the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office.
