NYPD Announces Update on Escaped New York City Prisoner

NEW YORK, NY – A manhunt for an escaped prisoner on the run since August in New York City has ended,.

A 44-year-old man, Yenchun Chen, has been arrested and charged with escaping custody after being on the run since August.

The arrest was made on Tuesday at approximately 8 am within the 13th Precinct. Chen was initially held in the Department of Corrections custody inside Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital.


On August 9, he escaped from the hospital through a 5th-floor window and was seen entering a southbound yellow taxi at approximately 1636 hours. He fled southbound on 2nd Avenue.

Chen resides at 47-05 Center Boulevard in Queens, NY. He is described as a 6’3″ male, weighing about 250 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, and tattoos on his left arm and hand.

Authorities have released surveillance photos of the individual and are asking anyone with additional information to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit their tips online.
