Cedar Grove Edges Shabazz in Nail-Biter, 25-24

CEDAR GROVE, NJ – Cedar Grove High School narrowly defeated Shabazz High School on Sunday, clinching the win with a score of 25-24.

The home team Cedar Grove remains unbeaten, moving to 3-0 in the Super Football Conference (SFC), while Shabazz drops to 1-2 in the same conference. Both teams were scoreless in the first two quarters, but the game saw significant action in the second half.

The breakthrough came in the third quarter when Cedar Grove’s Sebastian Kovacs scored a 22-yard field goal. Teammate Stephen Paradiso followed with a 2-yard run to bring the score to 9-0.


The fourth quarter was electrifying as Cedar Grove’s Jackson Morrice caught a 17-yard pass from Paradiso, making it 17-0. Cedar Grove continued to capitalize on their momentum, with Stephen Paradiso securing another 1-yard run and Nick Droge successfully completing a pass to make it 25-0.

Cedar Grove’s Stephen Paradiso led in total passing yards, securing 76 for the day. On the ground, Nick Iannacone led in rushing yardage with 74 yards. Jackson Morrice led in receiving yardage with 39 yards and also made a crucial interception. Nick Droge stood out defensively with two sacks, and Bobby Kelly led in total tackles with 15.
