Cumberland Man Arrested After Threatening to Kill Judge

CUMBERLAND, MD – Brian Elsworth Johnson, 59, was arrested after making life-threatening remarks to a judge in the District Court of Maryland.

The original incident unfolded on September 12 when Cumberland Police were dispatched to the court for a disturbance. Johnson had created a disruption during court proceedings and was subsequently removed from the courtroom.

He was reported to have made numerous threats to the judge’s life.


Further investigation uncovered that Johnson has a history of being removed from court settings. Officers secured courtroom recordings capturing the entire incident. Johnson was arrested on September 14 and is now in custody at the Allegany County Detention Center. He faces charges of making threats to injure a state official.
