WILDWOOD CREST, NJ – In light of the approaching Hurricane Lee, the Wildwood Crest Police Department advises residents and visitors to refrain from entering the water due to hazardous conditions. The department has released key messages regarding potential impacts of the storm.

Life-threatening rip currents and dangerous surf are already impacting the region. Conditions are expected to worsen throughout the week, with improvement likely by Sunday.

Small craft are warned of increasingly treacherous ocean conditions. Waves may exceed 10 feet by Friday.

Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion are anticipated as the hurricane makes its closest approach late Friday into Saturday.

Gale force winds, with gusts nearing 40 mph, may affect the ocean and adjacent near-shore areas late Friday into Saturday.

No additional impacts are expected at this time, as Hurricane Lee’s track is forecasted to remain well east of the region.

For updated forecasts, residents can visit the National Hurricane Center’s website at www.nhc.noaa.gov and the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov/phi. This advisory serves as the final notice unless significant changes occur.
