POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ – A boat with at least three passengers sunk after it crashed into the rocks on the jetty along the Manasquan Inlet Thursday night, according to Coast Guard sources.

Ocean waters in the area were rough and choppy last night as Hurricane Lee loomed a few hundred miles off the coast.

Emergency crews were actively looking for a missing individual after a boat overturned in the Manasquan Inlet late late into the night.

Local police called the Coast Guard that three people had fallen into the water. Two had been located and rescued by first responders in the area; the search for the remaining person continues, said agency spokesperson Petty Officer 3rd Class Kimberly Reaves.

Aiding the search are a 47-foot lifeboat from the Coast Guard’s Manasquan Inlet Station and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter dispatched from the Coast Guard’s Atlantic City Station, Reaves confirmed.

Emergency teams were assembled on the Manasquan side of the inlet’s jetty as the search for the still-missing boater proceeded.
