Donovan Catholic Snaps Toms River North’s Winning Streak and Hopes

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Donovan Catholic defeated Toms River North 21-7 in a key Shore Conference football matchup on Friday evening. The game left star quarterback Micah Ford injured. He was taken off the field with just under five minutes left in the game with a right knee injury. The extent of the injury is unknown.

That’s bad news for the #4 ranked Mariners whose 17-game winning streak was broken.

Donovan Catholic maintained their unbeaten record at 3-0, while Toms River North moved to 3-1.


Both teams scored in the first quarter. Toms River North’s Micah Ford threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Pruitt, while Donovan Catholic’s Todd Lambertson connected with Emanuel Gerena for a 49-yard score. The second and third quarters remained scoreless, leaving the match tied at 7-7.

The fourth quarter saw Donovan Catholic pull away. Najee Calhoun scored on a 3-yard run, followed by a 59-yard run, both successfully converted by Dante Priolo.

Notable performances included Micah Ford with 102 rushing yards and 53 passing yards for Toms River North, and Najee Calhoun with 159 rushing yards for Donovan Catholic. On the defensive end, Zaeir Day for Donovan Catholic recorded one sack, and Roman Moyers intercepted a pass.

The game was a pivotal moment for both teams as they look forward to the remainder of the season in the Shore Conference.
