Holy Cow! Massachusetts Steer Breaks Guinness World Record in Height

CHESHIRE, MA – A steer named Tommy has earned a spot in the Guinness World Records for being the tallest living steer, with a height of 6 feet, 1 inch. Owned by Fred Balawender, a farmer in Cheshire, Massachusetts, 13-year-old Tommy is a purebred Brown Swiss steer, known for being among the largest of dairy breeds.

Tommy has been a part of the Balawender family since he was just a day old, according to Fred’s daughter, Laurie Cuevas. “Tommy’s growth was exceptional from the start. He and my dad formed an immediate bond, and Tommy became a cherished family pet,” she shared.

Cuevas revealed that Tommy was named in honor of Tom Brady, who was the quarterback for the New England Patriots at the time of the steer’s naming. Tommy will continue to live with the family for the rest of his natural life.

As for Tommy’s weight, that remains a mystery. Cuevas explained that he is too large to be transported to a scale that could accurately measure him.

Tommy’s new record not only brings attention to the Balawender family’s farm but also spotlights the Brown Swiss breed, commonly associated with large sizes but rarely achieving Tommy’s extraordinary height.
