Utica Police Charge Seven in Connection to Security Guard Shooting

UTICA, NY – The Utica Police Department, in cooperation with local agencies, has charged seven individuals involved in the September 9th fight that led to the shooting of Proctor Security Guard Jeff Lynch.

Alongside the Utica City School District, Oneida County Probation, and the Oneida County District Attorney’s office, the investigation targeted individuals involved in violent behavior captured in social media videos. One male was found in possession of a knife during the incident.

A 16-year-old male, now 17, was previously arrested and charged in direct relation to the shooting of Jeff Lynch. His case will proceed under adult prosecution standards.


On September 20th and 21st, the Utica Police Department’s Juvenile Aid Unit located and charged seven individuals with Riot in the Second Degree. One juvenile was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree for having a knife during the fight.

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
