Citbike Rider Carjacked at Gunpoint in Chelsea

NEW YORK, NY – An unidentified individual simulated a firearm and stole a Citi Bike from a 31-year-old victim at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 17th Street.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 4:24 p.m. The individual approached the victim, placed his hand inside a fanny pack, and simulated a firearm. He then threatened the victim’s life and forcibly took his Citi Bike before fleeing in an unknown direction.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.


The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion, aged 25 to 30, weighing between 150 to 160 pounds, and approximately 5″9′ in height with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a brown fanny pack across his chest, a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the sleeves, gray pants, and black sneakers.

Police are actively investigating the case and are requesting any information that could assist in identifying the individual.
