NEWARK, NJ – New research shows Minecraft is the most popular video game in New Jersey, followed by God of War and Elden Ring.

Experts from Play Minesweeper collected data on average monthly Google searches in New Jersey, including search terms like ‘X cheats,’ ‘buy X,’ and ‘X walkthrough.’ The compiled search volume indicated the state’s top five video games.

Minecraft, originally released in 2011, continues to dominate with a search volume of 47,858. It appeals to players of all ages and is compatible with multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.


God of War, first launched in 2005, is second with a search volume of 30,673. It was initially exclusive to PlayStation but has expanded to Xbox Series X. The franchise includes a total of 11 games.

Elden Ring, released in February 2022, is already third with a search volume of 25,072. The game is an action role-playing adventure featuring multiple storylines set in a sprawling kingdom.

God of War: Ragnarok, a new addition to the God of War series, ranks fourth with a search volume of 22,059. This game expands on the relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus as they journey through nine realms.

Resident Evil 4 closes out the top five with a search volume of 21,783. Initially released in 2005, it was remade and relaunched this year with updated gameplay and graphics.

A spokesperson from Play Minesweeper stated, “The top 5 list shows a mix of long-standing favorites and new releases, indicating that high-quality graphics are not the sole determinant of a game’s popularity.”
