BALTIMORE, MD – Natural Resources Police have filed multiple charges against two Baltimore residents who were found illegally fishing and trespassing in Gunpowder Falls State Park after its official closing hours.

Officers encountered the group of four individuals around 10:50 p.m. on September 18. Three were fishing in the Gunpowder River, while the fourth was chopping at a tree with a machete. Upon further inspection, police discovered a Glock 19 Polymer 80 handgun with an extended magazine containing 23 rounds, in addition to one in the chamber, just yards from the group’s location.

Known as a “ghost gun,” the firearm was a build-at-home kit requiring no serial numbers or background checks for purchase. The Natural Resources Police K9 unit also found a Umarex Glock 19 Replica BB gun, a bag of metal BBs, and a small baggie of marijuana nearby.

Marvin Geovani Cabrera Ortiz, 18, was charged with possession of a weapon in a state park and removing, disturbing, or damaging a plant on state lands. Both Ortiz and Enoc Exau Diaz Dominguez, 19, face charges for fishing without a license and trespassing in a closed public area. Each charge carries its own set of fines. Two minors in the group were not charged.

The possession of weapons in Maryland state parks is illegal, with the exception of those carried by licensed hunters in designated areas during appropriate times.
