ABSECON, NJ – Pool owners in the Absecon area couldn’t figure out why their pools were turning bright green overnight, but local police were able to solve the mystery earlier this month.

A multi-agency operation led to the arrest of Patrick Spina 4th, who used a drone to vandalize pools by dropping dye, resulting in property damage.

The investigation involved Absecon Police, Federal Aviation Administration, New Jersey State Police, and Galloway Township Police. Spina, owner of Comfort Solutions Heating and Cooling, was apprehended after his drone was traced to his business location in Galloway Township.

The first incident was reported on August 13th by a resident on Upland Avenue, who witnessed a drone hovering over their pool before releasing a substance. The water subsequently changed color. More incidents followed, including one that led to damage at the Quality Inn in Galloway Township.

On September 1st, authorities located the drone in operation above the Quality Inn and were able to trace its flight back to Spina’s business. He has been charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief.

Further investigation revealed that the drone had been dispersing Sea Dye, a substance commonly used in sea rescues. The dye caused damage to several pools and is not permitted for such use.

Spina, aged 45, was released on a summons and awaits court proceedings. Authorities have called upon residents who have experienced similar incidents to come forward and report them to local law enforcement.
