NEW YORK, NY – In a stark acknowledgment of the city’s escalating drug crisis, the New York City Health Department is now urging all residents to carry Narcan, a medication known for reversing opioid overdoses. The urgent call to action comes as the city grapples with a disturbing statistic: one New Yorker is dying every three hours due to drug overdose.

Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan emphasized the severity of the issue, stating, “No one is spared, even if you think otherwise. If you use drugs, know someone who is using drugs, or might be around drug use, there are simple steps we can take. First, everyone should carry naloxone, get trained to use it, and recognize the signs of overdose.”

The Health Department is collaborating with local pharmacies and community centers to increase the availability of Narcan, and they are also offering training sessions on how to administer the medication properly.

As overdose deaths continue to rise, this latest initiative represents a desperate measure to curb the mounting crisis that is affecting New Yorkers from all walks of life. The Health Department is encouraging community vigilance and education as key steps to mitigate the issue.

The announcement has sparked dialogue throughout the city, from community board meetings to social media platforms, about the ongoing struggle against drug abuse and its tragic consequences. Public health officials and advocacy groups are expected to continue their outreach efforts, with the aim of equipping as many New Yorkers as possible with the lifesaving drug.
