First Lady Tammy Murphy Lining Up for Senate Run Against Bob Menendez

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy, the wife of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is being lined up to run for Senate against a disgraced Robert Menendez in 2024. Democrat party leaders have announced their support for a potential run by the First Lady, even close Menendez supporter, Essex County Democrat Party Executive Joseph DiVincenzo.

This week, DiVincenzo paraded Mrs. Murphy on stage at a public event, Essex County College’s new West Essex Campus ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“She’s been overwhelmed and humbled,” Phil Murphy said about his wife’s possible run for senate.  “Secondly, she and we are laser-focused on the legislative elections on November 7 — that’s where all our energies are; I was in South Jersey for that very reason last night. Thirdly, I’m sure if she’s got news to make, at some point, she’ll make it.”

A Murphy candidacy could spark a civil war among New Jersey Democrats who have had enough with Murphy’s stronghanded grip over the party.

District 3 Congressman Andy Kim announced his official candidacy last week and has raised over $1,000,000 since. Kim, a strong campaigner and a politician who knows how to raise money could give the Murphys a run for their own money in what could be a sharply divided contest in 2024.

Tammy Snyder Murphy, the First Lady of New Jersey, continues to champion causes ranging from the environment to social justice, making her an integral part of the state’s initiatives for change.

Born in Virginia in 1965, Murphy is a graduate of the University of Virginia, with a B.A. in English and Communications. She and her family, including New Jersey Governor Philip D. Murphy, reside in Monmouth County. Together they have four children: Josh, Emma, Charlie, and Sam.

From 2009 to 2013, Tammy Murphy and her family served as official representatives of the United States in Germany. In this role, she chaired meetings, delivered speeches, and hosted diplomatic events. Her efforts focused on strengthening U.S.-German relations and positively impacted thousands of Germans and Americans.

Returning to New Jersey, Murphy and her husband founded a think tank aimed at boosting the state’s economy and fostering growth in the middle class. As First Lady, Murphy actively meets with New Jersey residents to discuss their concerns, drawing on her extensive experience in the private and nonprofit sectors to contribute to policy solutions.

Murphy’s influence extends to numerous organizations focused on the environment, education, healthcare, and other important issues. She is a board member and charter member of The Climate Reality Action Fund, founded by former Vice President Al Gore.

Through her actions and leadership, Tammy Snyder Murphy is making a significant impact on both state and global issues, affirming her role as a force for positive change.
