BIRMINGHAM, AL – Joseph Skylar Weeks, 32, of Jacksonville, Alabama, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison followed by 30 years of supervised release for possession of child pornography.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Annmarie Axon and announced by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton L. Peeples. The conviction will require Weeks to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

In August 2022, an undercover law enforcement officer responded to an ad posted by Weeks on a social media application. Weeks believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl and discussed meeting arrangements. On October 13, Weeks was arrested by Homewood police officers upon arriving at the designated meeting location. A subsequent search warrant executed on his cell phone revealed a video containing child sexual abuse material.

The case was investigated by the FBI and Homewood Police Department, with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel S. McBrayer prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice started in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
