BELTSVILLE, MD – A routine check for any potential winning Lottery games transformed into a remarkable surprise for Elio Figueroa of Prince George’s County. The 48-year-old man made an unexpected purchase that led to a $50,000 top-prize win, which he promptly gifted to his wife.

Elio’s journey to his big win began when he visited Sunrise Market & Deli in Beltsville. While he initially stopped to verify if any of his previous Lottery game purchases were winners, he left empty-handed. However, he decided to buy a few more games, one of which was a $20 $50,000 Cash scratch-off ticket that he took home for his wife, Maria.

41-year-old Maria Figueroa was engrossed in her cooking when she paused to try her luck on the scratch-off ticket Elio had brought. While she believed she might have a winning ticket, she was uncertain and passed it to Elio for verification.

Elio recounted, “She definitely matched the winning number. But the real surprise came as I revealed the prize amount – the zeros just kept on coming.” Initially mistaking the win for $5,000, a second look clarified that they had won a whopping $50,000.

Maria, still in disbelief, expressed her joy, “I can’t believe he brought home a $50,000 win!” Their excitement was further cemented when Elio returned to the store and confirmed their win. They soon claimed their prize at the Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The couple, both employed in the construction industry and proud parents of two daughters, are eager to utilize the prize money. Their plan is to make a significant down payment on a new house, providing a fresh start for their family.
