WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar was the victim of an armed carjacking Monday evening but emerged from the incident without injuries, according to a statement from his office.

Jacob Hochberg, Cuellar’s chief of staff, announced that the Congressman was accosted by three armed individuals as he was parking his car. His vehicle was subsequently stolen, though it has been recovered by police.

The incident took place in Washington’s Navy Yard neighborhood, roughly a mile away from the U.S. Capitol.

This carjacking is the second assault on a member of Congress in Washington, DC, this year. Earlier, in February, Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota was assaulted in her apartment building. She escaped with minor injuries, and the incident was not believed to be politically motivated.
