BARCADE EXPANSION CONTINUES DESPITE INDUSTRY CHALLENGES BROOKLYN, NY – Barcade, the pioneer of the arcade bar concept, remains at the forefront of the entertainment and hospitality industry as the largest operator of arcade bars in the U.S. With a primary focus on vintage 1980s video games and a selection of American craft beers on draft, Barcade has established itself as a unique experience for patrons.

Founded in 2004, the initial Barcade was set up on Union Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in what was once a metal shop. Its establishment was the result of evenings spent by founders Paul Kermizian, Pete Langway, and the Beard brothers, Kevin and Scott, playing vintage video games and enjoying craft beers in Paul’s loft. Recognizing the potential of combining these two interests, the group transitioned from their respective careers in graphic design, film and television, and advertising, to embark on the Barcade venture.

While the founders did most of the initial construction, they preserved the space’s warehouse and garage aesthetics. Its launch in 2004 was met with widespread approval. To protect their innovative idea, the founders registered a federal trademark for the name “Barcade” in 2007.

With its expansion strategy in place, Barcade opened additional venues in places such as Jersey City, Philadelphia, Manhattan, New Haven, Newark, Los Angeles, and Detroit. Today, there are nine Barcade establishments spread across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, California, and Michigan.

In 2015, to differentiate itself from the many arcade bars emerging across the country, Barcade adopted the tagline “The Original Arcade Bar.” Several of the newer establishments have acknowledged Barcade as their muse.

The Green Restaurant Association, dedicated to promoting environmentally responsible operations within the food and beverage industry, has certified Barcade locations as green. The brand has also received accolades from various media outlets. In 2008, Esquire Magazine heralded Barcade in Brooklyn as one of America’s best bars. Additionally, social media platform Foursquare named Brooklyn’s Barcade as New York City’s top bar in 2013, while the television show Brew Dogs lauded Barcade in Philadelphia as the city’s premier craft beer bar that same year.

Barcade’s dedication to sustainability, its innovative concept, and commitment to quality set it apart in an ever-evolving industry.
