UPPER MARLBORO, MD – High jackpot figures are all it takes to draw an Upper Marlboro resident into playing the Lottery. So, when her Powerball ticket flashed a $50,000 win on her phone, it took her by complete surprise.

The mother of four was overwhelmed by the unexpected twist. “I was in shock when I saw it,” she shared during her visit to the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The discovery came about while she was waiting in the car with one of her kids. To pass the time, she decided to check her $10 quick-pick ticket using the Maryland Lottery app. When her husband returned to the vehicle with their other child, he found her in tears. After sharing the incredible news with him, they both rejoiced at their newfound fortune.

The winning ticket was from the Oct. 2 drawing, during which the Powerball jackpot had soared to a staggering amount. By matching four of the five primary numbers and the Powerball, she clinched the third-tier prize of $50,000. The Powerball jackpot has since continued its upward trajectory, currently pegged at an estimated $1.4 billion for the upcoming Oct. 7 draw.

Encouraged by their win, the couple remains keen on trying their luck. The husband mentioned, “Yes! Actually, we just purchased more tickets yesterday.”

This substantial win will enable them to make a significant life change. They intend to use the prize money for a down payment on their dream home.

Their winning ticket was sourced from the Exxon gas station located at 1500 Northwest Crain Highway in Bowie.
