NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Newport News Police Department’s (NNPD) ongoing beach clean-up initiative at the Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park has once again proven its effectiveness, thanks to the relentless efforts of the officers, staff, and community collaborators.

This past week’s clean-up saw enthusiastic participation from students of Peninsula Catholic High School. Their dedication combined with that of the NNPD led to the collection of a remarkable 1,169.81 pounds of trash and debris from the beach.

This significant effort has raised the yearly tally of waste collected to an impressive 5,531 pounds.

The NNPD extends its gratitude to every individual and organization involved, emphasizing their collective role in preserving the beauty and cleanliness of this community hub.
