GLEN BURNIE, MD – A substitute teacher was detained last Friday after a handgun was discovered inside a backpack at Glen Burnie High School.

The discovery prompted an immediate lockdown, according to Principal Kevin Carr.

The backpack, left behind during the transition between third-period classes, was found by a staff member and handed over to the police.

The substitute teacher, who was teaching in another classroom when identified, has been barred from any future roles within Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Principal Carr praised the students for maintaining calm and order during the lockdown, adhering to staff instructions throughout the incident.

The teacher’s name was not immediately released by police.
