Baltimore County Police Aviation Team Celebrates 40 Accident-Free Years

BALTIMORE – Marking the 40th anniversary of the Baltimore County Police Aviation Team, a special commemorative event is set to take place in partnership with the Airborne Public Safety Association (APSA). The occasion, termed the “APSA Safety Standdown,” aims to enhance aviation safety in law enforcement.

The event will offer specialized aviation safety training to law enforcement aviators from across the nation, focusing on enhancing operational risk management and mitigation practices.

Since its inception in 1983, the Baltimore County Police Aviation Team has amassed an impressive record of nearly 51,000 flight hours without a single accident. To honor this remarkable achievement, proclamations and citations will be awarded during a ceremony at the Martin State Airport.

Of special note is Roy Taylor, the visionary behind the Aviation Team. In a unique gesture back in 1983, Taylor had leased his personal Cessna 150 aircraft to Baltimore County at the nominal rate of $1 per year, effectively jump-starting the program.
