Cumberland Man Charged for Assaulting Woman

CUMBERLAND, MD – A 42-year-old Cumberland man was arrested on charges of second-degree assault after police responded to a reported altercation inside a vehicle on Grand Avenue and E. Third Street. The incident took place on Friday, October 13, at around 11:28 AM.

Officers from the Cumberland Police Department arrived at the scene to find a male subject, later identified as Benjamin Reimer, exiting the vehicle and starting to walk away. After making contact, Reimer informed the officers that he had been in a verbal dispute with a female in the car.

The police then spoke to the female, who alleged that Reimer had assaulted her. According to the officers, her injuries were in line with her account of the events.


Based on this evidence, Reimer was arrested and transported to Central Booking. He later appeared before a District Court Commissioner and was sent to the Allegany County Detention Center, with a bond set at $2,000.

In a press release, the Cumberland Police Department stated, “Reimer was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond.” Benjamin Jacob Reimer now faces charges of second-degree assault and awaits further legal proceedings.
