The U.S. Coast Guard’s Marine Board of Investigation (MBI) successfully recovered remaining debris and evidence from the Titan submersible, which was lost in the North Atlantic Ocean. The recovery mission took place on October 4 and involved collaboration with various national and international agencies.

Under an existing agreement with the U.S. Navy Supervisor of Salvage & Diving, the salvage mission was conducted to follow up on initial recovery efforts. The operation also involved investigators from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. These agencies participated in the mission as part of ongoing safety investigations into the loss of the Titan submersible.

The retrieved debris and evidence were transferred to a U.S. port for further cataloging and analysis. In addition, presumed human remains found within the Titan’s debris were carefully recovered and have been sent for examination by U.S. medical professionals.

In an effort to determine the next steps in the forensic testing process, the MBI is coordinating a joint evidence review session with the NTSB and other international investigative agencies. This session will focus on scrutinizing the recovered debris from the Titan.

The MBI has also stated that it will continue to analyze evidence and conduct witness interviews as it prepares for a public hearing to discuss the tragic loss of the Titan submersible.
