Governor Murphy Calls for Civility in NJ as Palestinians and Israelis Cope with Suffering

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy called upon New Jerseyans to be better today. In response to online rhetoric in light of a terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel, the governor is calling for civility.

Murphy warned against attacks on Muslims and Jews in light of the heinous terror attack and Israel’s offensive to destroy Hamas terrorist infrastructure in the West Bank.

“The last week has been incredibly difficult for many people throughout New Jersey and the world. We mourn for the Israeli and Palestinian victims and families who are suffering unfathomable loss and uncertainty, and condemn all acts of terrorism against innocent civilians,” Murphy said. “Violence or discrimination against anyone based on their religion, whether it is Judaism, Islam, or anything else, is never justified and runs counter to the principles of equality and tolerance that are the foundation of our state and our country. We pray for continued peace in our state and may New Jersey be a shining example of how diverse communities can live, work and pray together.”

Murphy’s comments come as he is on a trip to Japan to sell New Jersey as a business prospect for Asian-based companies.

Over 1,200 Israelis died in the Hamas terrorist attack last weekend, including women and children. The Israeli government confirmed babies were slaughtered, burned, and decapitated.
