“Trick No Treats” Operation Targets Street Racing, Results in Multiple Arrests

Tampa, FL — A coordinated effort to crackdown on street takeovers and illegal racing events in Hillsborough County led to multiple arrests on Friday, October 13, 2023. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) joined forces with the Tampa Police Department in an operation dubbed “Trick No Treats.”

The operation focused on a large crowd of violators who had blocked off the intersection of North Obrien Street and West Laurel Street in all directions, disrupting oncoming traffic. HCSO’s Motor Unit, SID detectives, and Street Crimes Unit were all involved in the enforcement action.

The results of “Trick No Treats” were as follows:


  • 25 traffic stops
  • 25 citations issued
  • 10 warnings given
  • 10 arrests, including charges of DUI and child endangerment
  • 4 vehicles impounded with a 30-day hold
  • One arrest also led to the discovery of a fully loaded “ghost handgun.”

Sheriff Chad Chronister emphasized the hazards posed by such activities, stating, “Street takeovers and illegal racing pose an imminent danger not just to participants, but to innocent bystanders and the fabric of our community. We must prioritize safety over recklessness and uphold the law to protect our citizens’ lives and uphold the integrity of our community.”
